Surface Preparation

Wood

CoverSeal AC30 is compatible over most existing wood finishes that are in good condition and intact. Use SurfaceTreat cleaner over any floor wax. Contact CoverTec representative to check compatibility. The substrate should be free of  oil, dust, dirt, grease, or flaking sealer before sand screening. Lightly screen surface with 120 grit paper to achieve a roughened surface. After sand screening the surface, remove all dust and debris.

Wood Laminate

CoverSeal AC30 will adhere to most wood laminate after proper preparation. Be certain floor is free from
all wax or oily residue. Clean and abrade floor with 120 grit sand paper. Do not use steel wool. Vacuum thoroughly and tack floor with a slightly water-dampened cloth to remove all dust.
Always prepare a sample or test area to determine compatibility.

Concrete, terrazzo, stone and tile

The surface must be completely free of oil, grease, curing compounds, other coatings, water repellants and any other foreign material that may inhibit the sealer adhesion to it. The surface must be porous enough to allow sealer penetration.

Use SurfaceTreat for Deep cleaning existing finish without stripping. Dilute 8 fl. oz. per 1 gallon of cold water. Use a heavy-duty hair pad under a low speed machine or automatic scrubber to deeply cleanse the finish (will not strip finish). Clean up to 4 layers deep. Scrub floor and pick up the solution in one pass or damp-mop thoroughly. Let it dry. Apply 2 coats of AC30. . Test for water absorption. If water beads on any section of the floor repeat the process until contaminants are completely removed. After cleaning, allow surface to dry 24 hours prior to sealer application. Allow new concrete to cure for at least 14 days before application.

Mixing

Stir CoverSeal AC30 thoroughly before use.

Application CoverSeal AC30 may be applied by may be applied via T- Bar, micro-fiber applicator, short nap roller (1/4” to 3/8” nap), or low pressure sprayer. Apply two or more thin coats. Allow to dry tack free between coats. AC30 responds to immediate follow-up buffing and burnishing. Dry time is approximately 30 mins at 70°F (21°C), but varies depending on temperature, wind and humidity.

Important note: Over application and excess sealer must not be allowed to pool or puddle. Wipe up any pools after 5 minutes.

Wood Flooring Use a synthetic bar applicator to provide the smoothest finish. Best results are achieved when ambient temperatures are between 50 and 90 F, and humidity below 80%.

Pour a 5 – 6″ wide line of finish along the starting wall, going with the grain of the wood.

Using a clean, dampened applicator, draw the finish toward the opposite wall going with the grain of the wood.

Holding the applicator at a “snowplow” angle will maintain a wet edge at all times. As you approach the end of the run, turn the applicator toward you and pad out excess material parallel to the wet edge. Feather out all turns.

Dry Time

Protect the application from rain for 12 hours. Light foot traffic is possible after 2 to 4 hours at 70°F (21°C). Allow 12 hours for Heavy foot traffic. Allow 72 hours before replacing heavy furniture or opening area to vehicular traffic at 70°F (21°C). Test area for sealer acceptance and desired results.

Clean Up

When wet, flush with clean water. When dry, clean tools and equipment with CT-12 Thinner.
